Why choose Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage therapist treating back pain in Teneriffe Brisbane

Most people book a remedial massage in Brisbane the same way they'd book a relaxation massage: something hurts, they want it to stop hurting, they lie on a table for an hour. At my clinic in Teneriffe, I take a different approach.

‍ ‍

I get it. But remedial massage isn't relaxation massage with more pressure. It's a different thing entirely, and understanding the difference is usually the first step to actually getting out of pain, not just getting a break from it.

‍ ‍

So what actually is remedial massage?

‍ ‍

Remedial massage is assessment-led. Before I touch a single muscle, I want to know what you're dealing with, how long it's been going on, what makes it better or worse, and how you move. That assessment is what separates remedial massage from a spa-style treatment, because it means the session is built around your body that day, not a fixed routine.

‍ ‍

From there, treatment might involve deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilisation, dry needling or cupping, depending on what your body actually needs. It's commonly used for:

‍ ‍

  • Chronic back, neck and shoulder pain

  • Sports and training-related injuries

  • Joint stiffness and restricted range of motion

  • Tension headaches

  • Postural imbalances from desk work or training load

  • Muscle tightness that keeps coming back no matter how much you stretch

‍ ‍

Why "just the sore spot" usually isn't enough

‍ ‍

Here's the thing I see most often: someone comes in with, say, shoulder pain, expecting me to spend the whole session on their shoulder. Sometimes I do. Often I don't, because the shoulder is where the pain is showing up, not necessarily where the problem started.

‍ ‍

If I only ever treat the symptom, you'll feel better for a few days and then you'll be back in the same spot, literally. Real remedial massage looks at how you move, load and recover as a whole system, so we can find what's actually driving the issue, not just chase it around your body session after session.

‍ ‍

That's the difference between temporary relief and results that actually last (I go deeper on this in why your pain keeps coming back, if you want the full picture).

‍ ‍

What you can expect from remedial massage

‍ ‍

Pain relief that addresses the source. Targeted treatment reduces tension and improves circulation, but the bigger win is understanding why the pain showed up in the first place.

‍ ‍

Better mobility, not just less tightness. Releasing restriction in muscle and fascia is only half the job. Real mobility comes from your body trusting that range again, which is why I often pair hands-on work with movement.

‍ ‍

Posture support that's specific to you. I'll flag postural patterns I see and give you something practical to do about them, not a generic "sit up straighter" line.

‍ ‍

A nervous system reset, not just a physical one. Chronic tension isn't purely muscular. A good remedial session can genuinely take the edge off stress and fatigue too.

‍ ‍

Support for staying active long-term. Whether you're training for something specific or just want your body to keep up with your life, remedial massage helps you train and move without constantly managing setbacks.

‍ ‍

What a session with me actually looks like

‍ ‍

We start with an assessment, not straight onto the table. I want to understand your posture, your range of motion, your training or lifestyle, and what's actually been going on. Treatment is built around what I find that day, and you'll leave knowing exactly what we worked on, why, and what (if anything) to do before your next session.

‍ ‍

I don't want you booking in every week indefinitely. My goal is to get you moving well enough that sessions become less frequent, not more, because the point isn't dependency. It's confidence in how your body moves.

Remedial massage in Teneriffe, Brisbane

‍ ‍

I run my clinic inside the PerforMotion Building in Teneriffe, and I work with people across Bowen Hills, Newstead, New Farm and greater Brisbane, everyone from desk workers and weekend athletes to competitive powerlifters, boxers and HYROX competitors (curious who actually books in? (here's the full range of clients I see). If you've tried massage before and the same tightness or pain keeps resurfacing, that's usually a sign the root cause hasn't been addressed yet, and that's exactly what I focus on.

Book your session or reach out at hello@movebetterwithroxy.com if you want to talk through what's going on first.
